NCFCA’s Comprehensive Guide to Value Debate by Christy Shipe
The 2018 version of this 12-lesson curriculum has been reformatted and updated. Now the NCFCA’s Comprehensive Guide to Value Debate comes in three volumes, just like our Foundations of Policy Debate curriculum: Student Text, Student Workbook, and Teacher Manual.
- The Student Text contains the student readings from the original Competitor’s Handbook. If you already own this volume, you are welcome to use it alongside the new Student Workbook and/or Teacher Manual. Unlike the previous edition, the new Student Text only has the readings.
- The Student Workbook and Teacher Manual are now resolution-specific and contain exercises and activities specifically written for 2026-27 LD Resolution, including a weekly discussion of articles on the topics of retribution and rehabilitation as well as related philosophical ideas.
- The curriculum contains a complete formal Logic course. The readings are contained in the Student Text. The exercises are in the Student Workbook. The exercises and answer key are in the Teacher Manual.

Understanding the Times: Current Events & Extemporaneous Speaking by Melinda Speece
The new, 8-lesson Understanding the Times: Current Events & Extemporaneous Speaking lays the foundation for studying current events, using discernment when interacting with the news, and focusing on the related subject areas as well as the nuts and bolts of preparing, practicing, and presenting an Extemp speech.
Designed to be a 1-semester course with plenty of time to practice full Extemp speeches before the competition season begins, each lesson has 3 readings, a set of individual exercises, and group activities. It also has weekly “Extemper’s Habits,” classic games with an Extemp twist, and 8 worldview studies. Check out the Table of Contents, Appendix, and sample of Lesson 1.
The curriculum comes in one volume that can be used by students, parents, coaches, and teachers.
Foundations of Policy Debate by Christy Shipe—Updated with Resolution-specific Materials!
Once again, Christy Shipe has updated the Student Workbook and Teacher Manual of the Foundations of Policy Debate with resolution-specific exercises and activities. If you already have the Student Text, you can purchase these individual volumes or select the bundle (Student, Teacher, or Family) that best meets your needs.
