NCFCA Christian Speech & Debate is a nationwide league with over 1500 families who participate in our tournaments.

Welcome! We’re glad you’re here. NCFCA serves families who want to grow as communicators within a distinctly Christian league. Before joining, we ask every family to understand who we are, what we believe, and what participation means.

Consider Your Commitment
NCFCA is a significant and rewarding investment for the whole family.
Students attend the full tournament for which they register. Parents serve throughout tournament events. Families invest time and resources in preparation and competition.

Time & Participation
- Attend as many or as few tournaments as work for your family
- Tournaments are 2–4 days long
- Travel and overnight stays may be necessary
- Registration for a tournament is a commitment to attend and participate through the entire event
- NCFCA uses a parent-participation model, where all parents serve throughout the event

Costs to Consider
Your season can be as simple or extensive as you choose. Typical expenses include:
- League affiliation (the annual cost for your family to join the league)
- Tournament registration and event fees
- Travel, lodging, and meals
- Professional competition attire
- Educational materials and competition supplies
Costs vary considerably depending on how many events your student enters and how many tournaments your family chooses to attend.

For more than 25 years, NCFCA has helped students grow into thoughtful, confident communicators.
Through preparation, competition, and feedback, students learn to:
- Think critically about complex ideas
- Own and articulate their faith
- Communicate clearly
- Graciously receive feedback and grow from it
- Listen well and consider different perspectives
- Persevere through challenges
Competition gives students a reason to prepare with purpose. At tournaments, they speak to real audiences, engage with peers, and receive substantial individualized feedback from judges.
Our purpose, however, is broader than competition and skill development. We believe God has called our league to challenge and equip ambassadors for Christ to communicate truth with integrity and grace.

Tournament Types
NCFCA offers several kinds of tournaments throughout the season:
- Junior Tournaments: One-day events for younger students. Focused on experience, feedback, and fun. Juniors do not advance to Championship competition.
- Practice Events: Early-season opportunities for competitors to practice and receive feedback. Participants do not advance to Championship competition.
- Qualifying Tournaments: The heart of the competitive season. Eligible competitors can earn advancement to their Regional Championship. May be regional or national events.
- Regional Championships: Championship competition for students who advance from Qualifying Tournaments. One Regional Championship per Region.
- National Championship: The culminating event of the season. By invitation to competitors who qualify through a national qualifying tournament, Regional Championship, or the National At-Large System.

Regional vs. National Tournament Events
Most competition happens within one of NCFCA’s 14 geographical regions.
A typical region offers several in-person Qualifying Tournaments from January through April, followed by a Regional Championship in late spring.
NCFCA also offers National Opens, where competitors from across the country can compete together either online or in person. These are also qualifying events.
The season culminates with the National Championship in June.

Junior Programming
Our league is for families, and that includes the young ones!.
Many in-person tournaments offer programming for students who aren’t yet old enough for qualifying competition:
- Junior Activities
- For younger siblings of competitors in our qualifying tournament
- Scheduled sessions throughout the tournament
- Register at the tournament
- Junior Tournaments
- For pre-registered participants from qualifying or non-qualifying affiliate families.
- One-day event with a specified timeframe where younger students get their own opportunity to compete and receive feedback.

Independent Speech and Debate Clubs
You don’t have to do NCFCA alone!
Most NCFCA students prepare for competition alongside friends at independently operated local clubs. Clubs give students a place to learn and practice while providing families with local community throughout their NCFCA experience.

The NCFCA Season
NCFCA is active throughout the year, and each season has its own rhythm:
Summer → Learn!
Build skills through camps, educational events, and other learning opportunities.Fall → Prepare!
Clubs begin meeting, students prepare for competition, and practice opportunities get underway.Winter & Spring → Compete!
Students participate in Qualifying Tournaments held across the country and online.
