Welcome to After Dinner Speaking!
In this event, speakers write and deliver an original speech, which may be humorous or lighthearted, to engage the audience and reinforce the message. The primary purpose is to inspire and/or connect with the audience, leaving them in good spirits.
How This Event Works
After Dinner speeches begin with students selecting a topic they see as personally valuable, having potentially humorous or lighthearted elements, and worth sharing with others. As they learn about their chosen topic they organize what they plan to say into a script for the speech they will deliver in competition rounds. They practice the delivery and timing for every tournament, and throughout the season they make adjustments based on feedback as they learn to better connect with the audience.
