Proclaim is a parent-run NCFCA affiliated competitive speech and debate club for 12–18-year-olds. We also offer a junior speech program for younger siblings of competitors.
Students in our club meet weekly to learn how to be effective communicators. We teach students all aspects of public speaking, from the choice of a topic to research and writing, to delivery. We also teach limited preparation speeches - where students are given a topic and have a certain time limit to prepare a speech. Finally, we teach interpretive speech. In interpretive speech, a student acts out a published selection of literature. During the fall semester, students learn the skills, write or select speeches, and have speeches critiqued. Debaters will extensively research the debate topic, learn about the mechanics of team policy debate, effective research methods, how to write and defend a case, and how to form logical arguments against a case.
