The Race Set Before Us

Sometimes the path twists and turns, leading us into uncharted territory. Such is the story of 2020. Still the author of Hebrews encourages us, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12: 1-2a)

Now more than ever, effective communication skills are critical in every facet of our lives. Crisis, hardship, and unrest highlight the need for gracious and winsome discourse to affect positive change, to serve as light in a dark world. This is the very essence of the NCFCA mission. We challenge young Christians to address life issues in a manner that glorifies God. We will use any and all methods to fulfill that mission.

We are excited to get back to our traditional onsite tournaments and the community experience they provide, and we also recognize the need for an online system to ensure that competition can go on no matter the circumstances in the various parts of the country.

For the 2021 competition season, NCFCA will offer a combination of online and onsite tournaments. This blended approach will help us to manage local and state regulations, unexpected facility closures, and sudden sweeping cancellations beyond our control that result in significant cost to our league and our families. By reducing the financial, logistical, and medical constraints of attending onsite tournaments, we come alongside our families who have been impacted by the unprecedented events of this year. We will also provide a unique opportunity for students to practice what will surely be a much-needed skill: the art of connecting in a meaningful way on an online platform.

After much prayer and consultation, our working plan for next season is outlined below. Of course, we will continue to monitor situations across the country as the summer moves into fall. We will share updates with you each month in the newsletter.

Our working plan for next season

Regional or District Qualifying Tournaments

At least one online tournament and up to three onsite tournaments per region or district (as possible)

National Qualifying Tournaments

Three online National Open Tournaments (January - March)

Moot Court Tournaments

Three online Moot Court Tournaments

Regional Championships

One traditional, onsite Regional Championship

National Championship

One traditional, onsite National Championship

The 2021 Qualification System will accommodate both online and onsite participation equitably. Watch for the complete qualification document later this summer.

We understand that this announcement may be met with a mix of joy and disappointment. While this year has required decisions that we never considered we’d have to make, we remain steadfast in our resolve to ensure that NCFCA competition goes on. The skills gained here are equipping students for their own continued race and that alone gives us great encouragement.

We appreciate your continued prayer and support. Each of you has your own NCFCA story of how participation in the league has impacted your family and we are honored to be part of that journey. We look forward to working alongside you this next season!
