Welcome (back) to NCFCA for the 2020 season!
“It takes a village” generally evokes an instant reaction, particularly by those of us who are homeschooling parents. I believe there is deeper ideology there that is worth exploring. It’s the concept of Christian community and the advantages that can be gained by working alongside one another for a common mission.
As Christ-followers and parents, we know that we are ultimately responsible for raising the children with which we have been entrusted. It is our duty, in conjunction with a local body of believers, to teach them about loving God and loving others. Beyond that circle, we know you have many options to train specific skills as you educate your students, and NCFCA is proud to be one of the many resources in your family’s toolbox. We commit to you to do the best job possible in helping your students grow their communication skills through the competitive opportunities we offer.
We trust that the research, writing, critical-thinking, and speaking skills acquired through participation in NCFCA, paired with the fear and admonition of the Lord that you are instilling are a powerful combination that will prepare them for whatever they are called to do. While you’re here, we pray that the NCFCA “village” will be a community of like-minded believers joining together for the common purpose of glorifying God in all we say and do.
We can’t wait to get this season started!
1 Corinthians 12: 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it
On family road trips, do the adults fall into the classic roles of Mom wanting to follow the GPS while Dad is certain he knows the way and doesn’t need directions?
Are there differences of opinion in your family about the value of the written instructions when you buy something with “assembly required”?
When you think about yourself, are you more of a color-inside-the-lines person or think-outside-the-box person? In many contexts, there are no right or wrong answers to these questions. Competitions, however, like soccer games, chess tournaments, spelling bees…and NCFCA speech and debate tournaments, are activities in which we intuitively know that following directions and rules is necessary. They allow each participant to understand the expectations and to “play” equitably within the boundaries.
2 Timothy 2:5 reminds us of this principle:
“An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules.”
The tools that allow each of us to participate and compete in NCFCA on a level playing field can be found in the Resource Library.
As speeches are being written and debate cases are being constructed for competition this season, be courageous, explore new ideas, research both broadly and deeply, experiment with a variety of tools and techniques. But keep the boundaries in mind. Prepare to color as creatively as you can…inside the lines.
Greetings, fellow travelers!
A new season is upon us, and we have embarked on a learning adventure together. Like Aslan in the final book of C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia Series, God encourages us to
“Come further in! Come further up!”
This Summer, we headed further up to our first annual NCFCA Summit. Thirty-six NCFCA leaders, coaches, and mentors gathered for twenty sessions designed to equip and inspire our Affiliates to climb to higher heights in their faith and communication skills. Over 1,000 people laughed and learned together. (Summit Sessions are available in the Affiliate Resource Library.)
This Fall, we are heading further in with our Fall Webinar Series.
