COSMO … AND an Exclusive NCFCA Discount!

It’s not uncommon to hear alumni say that their time in NCFCA speech and debate was one of the most formative experiences of their lives. For so many students, it’s a launching ground for nascent confidence, strengthening faith, and building a deeper curiosity and understanding of the world.

And now, over 12 years later, we also know that it formed the foundation of a business venture that three of us NCFCA alumni would go on to launch together.

We didn’t know it at the time, but the founding team of what is now a fast-growing family tech company called COSMO Technologies was first gathered back in 2008 in Belton, TX. It was the NCFCA National championships at Mary Hardin Baylor University and the three of us - Michelle (Wright) Ross, Russell York, and Ryan Gilles - didn’t all know each other well yet, hailing from Chicago to San Diego. But we soon would become close friends as we stepped from high school to four years at Patrick Henry College together.

Our early careers after college took us into a variety of fields, from teaching to consulting, and technology to public relations. We all agree that our time in NCFCA gave us confidence, critical thinking, and an ability to communicate that has continued to serve us regardless of industry or role. But in 2020-21, one by one we all convinced each other to quit our jobs and make the leap to founding something entirely new.

We launched COSMO Technologies with a clear mission: to help bring families together with better technology that helps keep kids safe and families connected in a digital world. More than ever, parents, teachers, and health experts alike are sounding the alarm about the dangerous impacts that screen time and social media can have on kids. COSMO’s goal is to give parents better tools for better, safer connection. In a little over a year we designed and manufactured what has become one of the nation’s best-selling kid-friendly 4G smartwatches and parent app, giving parents a better option for safe connection (calling, messaging, GPS tracking, etc.), but without the compromises that come along with smartphones.

Today, whether we’re pitching potential investors, writing website content, presenting at a conference, or researching market dynamics and supply chain strategies, we are constantly using skills that we developed and honed during our time in speech and debate. As we go through life, we’ll all find that our stories give us messages we want to share. It might be in a board room, at a church, or simply to a friend. For the three of us, we share the message and mission of fighting for families and helping protect kids in our digital world. Whatever your story might be, I’m confident that the skills learned through NCFCA will give you the foundation for telling that story with grace, confidence, and clarity.

We designed our best-selling JrTrack 2 Kids Smartwatch to be the perfect first device for kids ages 5-12. Think of it as a cyber seatbelt, helping kids stay safely connected and giving parents peace of mind. With 4G nationwide calling, text and voice messaging, GPS track & safezones, pedometer, reminders, and more, the JrTrack 2 and Mission Control parent app gives parents and kids everything they need - and most importantly, nothing they don’t. No social media, open internet, or calls from strangers. Just a simple, affordable (under $60!) solution to bring families together!

As former NCFCA competitors ourselves, we love to support families, home education, and the amazing work that NCFCA does. This holiday season, we’re thrilled to offer an exclusive 20% discount to any NCFCA families! Just visit our website and enter code NCFCA20 at checkout to receive 20% off (no cross-examination required!)

With love,

Ryan Gilles, Russell York, Michelle (Wright) Ross
