2022 Season Updates

2021 Season Kick-off

Welcome to the 2021 competition season!

Not surprisingly, our approach to providing 2021 season details will be different from years past, but we will continue to keep you informed by providing regular updates.

On Monday, November 16, we will begin accepting registration requests via the tournament information pages on your dashboard for each tournament that has been confirmed to date.

Before requesting registration:

  • Follow these steps to verify that the active profiles on your account are up-to-date with the most recent information. See the email from Tuesday, November 10 for details about giveaways available for completing your profile updates!
  • Review the registration sections of the League Handbook on pages 10-12 to understand the process. Most of your questions should be answered in the handbook.
  • Review the tournament schedule to ensure that your family will be able to commit to participation in the entire tournament. More details regarding parental expectations for online competition will be provided, but parents do need to be available to participate.

The Regional Tournaments tab on your dashboard will list tournaments available only to eligible competitors within your region. Review the individual tournament information pages for details and deadlines.

The National Tournaments tab will list tournaments available to competitors from multiple regions. Pay close attention to ensure that you only request registration for the National Open(s) for which you are eligible.

After requesting registration:

  • You will not see a registration confirmation until requests are processed after the close of the request period.
  • To verify that your requests have been received, return the registration tab of the tournament information page. Requested events will be listed as pending.
  • Once a request period closes, events are filled by random electronic assignment based on available space.
  • To see which requests were accommodated and to pay registration fees, return to the registration tab of the tournament information page between Tuesday at 5pm CT and Thursday at 5pm CT after the request period closes.

Preparing for online competition:

  • Watch for an online competition guide coming soon which will include tech requirements and tips.
  • Each participant (parents and competitors) must have a separate device. At present, laptop and desktop computers are supported devices; phones and tablets are not. We will continue to explore device options and provide updates.
  • Be aware that a stable high-speed internet connection capable of maintaining video streaming on multiple devices is necessary. Follow the instructions on this page to test your internet speed and to view an evaluation of the results.

We are looking forward to an unforgettable competition season ahead!

When will additional tournaments be posted?

We know that you need to plan for the competition season and we know that we need enough time to plan in order to provide excellent opportunities for our students. We are also more keenly aware of James 4:13-15 and Proverbs 16:9 this season than ever before!

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” (James 4:13-15, ESV)

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. (Pr. 16:9, ESV)

In previous years, we have been able to announce dates and locations for the entire season in the fall. We have traditionally waited for all of a region’s tournaments to be confirmed so that the schedule was locked in and you could solidly make plans for your participation when the tournaments were published.

This year, as you can imagine, our planning requires more flexibility and patience. Many facilities are unable to make firm commitments to host us at this time. Many churches are rightly prioritizing strategies to meet the needs of their congregations and communities based on ever-changing requirements and many colleges are ironing out (and re-ironing out) details for their students. Committing to onsite tournaments in some areas of the country is not an option at present based on current restrictions. And yet, we are working diligently with those facilities which, to the best of their ability, are willing to confirm their availability to host.

NCFCA is continuing to evaluate the feasibility and logistics of hosting onsite tournaments region by region. Next week, we will publish a document outlining the process and timeline that our leadership teams will use to announce, confirm, and execute additional tournaments.

You can expect to see more opportunities added to your dashboard soon! We will post tournaments that we believe, to a reasonable degree of certainty, we will be able to execute. Should circumstances change after a tournament is announced, our goal is to keep the dates the same with the option of pivoting to online competition or to an online “rain date” if necessary.

While we would love to have all of our tournament plans written in stone, the reality is that they will be written in wet cement and God will use this season, as He always does, to faithfully help us trust Him and know Him more!
