Speakers

Dr. Art Carden is an Associate Professor of Economics at Samford University’s Brock School of Business. In addition, he is a Senior Research Fellow with the Institute for Faith, Work, and Economics, a Senior Fellow with the Beacon Center of Tennessee, and a Research Fellow with the Independent Institute. He is also a Senior Fellow with the American Institute for Economic Research. His research has appeared in the Journal of Urban Economics, the Southern Economic Journal, Applied Economics, Public Choice, and Contemporary Economic Policy, and his commentaries have appeared in Forbes, USA Today, and many other outlets. He earned a BS and MA from the University of Alabama and an AM and PhD from Washington University in Saint Louis.

Christy Shipe and her husband Richard have been married for 19 years. They have five children. One of the Shipe children is currently competing in NCFCA. Christy was homeschooled through high school; graduated summa cum laude with a BA in political science from Cedarville University in 1998 and received the Edmund Burke award for social sciences. She participated on the Cedarville debate team for 3 years and is the author of two debate textbooks and producer of companion video. She is a NCFCA parent, debate coach, and a member of the NCFCA Debate Committee.
